The American School Foundation, A.C. is seeking a Swimming coach to join our Athletics and Extended Learning Division. This role is dedicated to nurturing both the character and athletic abilities of our student-athletes across various levels, from Lower School through graduation of Upper School. Responsibilities may include leading or assisting groups at both recreational and competitive levels. Our ideal candidate is an experienced and passionate swimming coach who can create a positive and inclusive team environment. One who will prioritize fundamentals, yet understand the importance of increasing competitiveness as the athletes' ages and skill levels progress. Strong leadership skills, the ability to collaborate with a professional team of colleagues, and a commitment to both team success and long-term student-athlete development are essential.
Key Responsibilities:
In collaboration with Athletics and Extended Learning administration:
Plan, organize, and conduct regular team practices focusing on skill development, strategy, and conditioning
Develop and implement effective plans and strategies for competition
Provide individual and team instruction, guiding athletes to improve their performance and understanding of the sport
Foster a positive team culture that emphasizes sportsmanship, respect, and teamwork Monitor and support the academic progress of student-athletes, promoting a balance between academics and athletics
Evaluate and recruit potential student-athletes, ensuring the continued success and competitiveness of the team
Collaborate with other coaches and staff to coordinate training programs, schedules, and resources
Ensure the safety and well-being of all team members during practices, competitions, and other team activities
Communicate effectively with parents, school staff, and the broader school community regarding team activities and performance
Adhere to all school and division policies and regulations, as well as the guidelines of relevant sports associations and leagues
Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with coaching techniques and best practices
Utilizes technology, data and statistics to improve coaching practices and team performance
Engages with the broader school community and involves the team in community activities
Demonstrates emotional intelligence and effectively resolves conflicts within the team and with colleagues
Education:
Bachelor's degree in a sport-related field, such as Physical Education (preferred)
Relevant coaching certifications (preferred)
CPR and First Aid certification (preferred)
Fluent level conversational English (preferred)
Schedule:
Monday & Wednesday = 12:30-6:30 PM; Tuesday 5:45-7:30 AM & 2:30-6:30 PM; Thursday = 2:30-6:30 PM; Fridays = 5:45-7:30 AM
23.5 weekly hours + any and all competitions/meetings/ceremonies/professional development or division functions
Contract dates: From August 10, 2026 to May 28, 2027
Skills:
Proven experience in the desired field of coaching or in a similar coaching role
Deep understanding of the specific sport and its rules, strategies, and techniques
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
Ability to inspire and motivate student-athletes to reach their full potential
Experience conducting team practices, developing game plans, and managing competitions
Collegiate or professional athlete experience (preferred)
